David Tresp, 3rd year PhD candidate in the Prokopchuk group, is off to Marburg, Germany for 2 months to start a collaborative project funded by the Rutgers Global Grants program. He will be studying the properties of redox-active Bi complexes for small molecule activation in the lab of Prof. Crispin Lichtenberg. Viel Glück!

The Prokopchuk group welcomes Viani Maxwell who joins us after completing her BS degree at Kean University.

We recently published a paper describing the first measurements of agostic Ni(C-H) bond strengths (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2022, 144, 12632). This exciting finding provides valuable information about designing more selective and efficient. C-H functionalization catalysts. Congrats Lirong!
Congratulations to Lirong, David, and Ageliki for recently passing their candidacy exams! Now it’s time to have a fun and productive summer.

The Prokopchuk group welcomes Sanju Kumari who joins us after completing her MS degree at IIT-Gandhinagar.

The Prokopchuk group welcomes Dr. Andrew VanderWeide who joins us after recently completing his PhD at the University of Rochester with Bill Jones. Andy brings a wealth of synthetic organometallic chemistry experience to the group and will be working on electocatalysis projects using Earth-abundant metals.

Amine-rich Cp ligands not only boost the electron density at Fe, but the carbon atoms are more basic than nitrogen, leading to an unusual electrocatalytic H2 evolution mechanism. Key findings to support this result were computed by our collaborators at the University of Bonn. Congrats to Bhumika, Práxedes, and Hagen (Uni Bonn) for your efforts, well done!

Congratulations to Bhumika and David for receiving 2020-2021 Teaching Assistant Awards!!
Bhumika received the award for outstanding contributions to an Introductory Undergraduate Laboratory and for her efforts in the General Chemistry Laboratory. David shares the award with Marzieh Heidari (Galoppini Lab) for outstanding contributions to an Advanced Undergraduate Laboratory and efforts in the Organic/Inorganic Laboratories.

Congratulations to Bhumika (top center) for passing her candidacy exam!!
